We asked Sharon to provide some quick tips or insight for fellow printing experts in the market. Here is what she has to say.
The following are great ideas to keep in mind when working with your professional digital printing partner:
1. Select a digital printer you consider a partner, not just a vendor
2. Like a Boy Scout or Girl Scout, always be prepared
3. Set explicit expectations and when possible provide a sample or pre-proof of your project
4. Provide crystal clear instructions and don’t assume the printing expert can read your mind
5. Take into consideration that most people are visual-learners or processers and need a solid picture of what you expect upon completion of the job
6. Lastly and most importantly, keep an open mind when working through ideas, project feasibility or issues with your digital printing partner
Jim Briggs - May DocuSource Hero
Jim Briggs with Merge, LLC has been selected as our first DocuSource Hero for 2010. Jim has been a great partner to DocuSource, working with his account team to deliver clear instructions, well constructed files and great communication regarding deadlines and changes along the way. We asked Jim to provide some helpful tips for fellow media experts in the market, and here is what Jim had to say:
Tip 1
Set up your files just as you would for offset printing. New software applications make preflight a lot easier; however, you should double check to make sure all image files are gathered and saved in the right format and resolution for final production. Don't forget to pull your bleeds away from the edge. At least 1/8" will make your printer happy; any more and you'll probably get a thank you note!
Tip 2
Check to make sure all fonts are included. In some cases, it may make sense to convert type to outlines to ensure that the final files look like you intended. Adobe InDesign makes this as easy as selecting "package" from the menu. Your file is saved along with all links (image files) and fonts.
Tip 3
DocuSource makes it easy to upload files using their Pronto system. Now that your files are preflighted for final production, zip your files and simply upload them. You'll get a response via email to let you know your file has arrived.
And lastly from Jim:
Digital printing has changed the way we do business in many ways. Quicker turnarounds. Lower costs. Great quality. A little old-fashioned production know-how will ensure that your work will continue to keep the workflow running smoothly and your clients happy.
